Congress is going to hold a press conference across the country tomorrow i.e. June 12 on the issue of summoning of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in the National Herald case. In fact, the ED has issued a fresh summons to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, asking them to appear before it for questioning on June 23 in connection with the money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. Officials gave this information on Friday. 75-year-old Sonia was earlier asked to appear before it on June 8, however, due to being infected with coronavirus, she had sought a new date from the ED for the muscle.

Officials said Sonia has been given a date of June 23 to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in Delhi, where her statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Sonia's son and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also likely to be questioned on June 13 in connection with the case. Rahul was earlier called for questioning on June 2, but he had asked for a new date as he was on a foreign trip. The ED summoned him on June 13. Congress has accused the Central government of misusing the investigating agency and has decided that during Rahul Gandhi's appearance before the ED on June 13, senior party leaders and MPs will hold a satyagraha outside the ED office and march to the probe agency's headquarters in Delhi.

This case is related to the investigation of the alleged financial irregularity in the party-backed Young Indian Private Limited. National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. ED officials had said that the agency wanted to record statements of Sonia and Rahul under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The officials had said that the interrogation of senior Congress leaders and the Gandhi family was part of the ED's investigation to understand the sharing pattern, financial transactions and role of promoters of Young Indian and AJL. The promoters and shareholders of Young Indian include Sonia and Rahul and some other members of Congress.
