Sagar: There is a Gram Panchayat in Madhya Pradesh where elections are being held unopposed for not one, two but the last seven times. For the seventh consecutive time, panch-sarpanches have all been elected unopposed. The name of this Gram Panchayat is Pipariya Gopal Gram Panchayat. This gram Panchayat, which falls in Rahali district of Sagar district, did not have a vote for 32 years. Women have been elected to 16 posts of Panch and Sarpanch. People said that as soon as the date of the election is finalized, all the people of the village gather at Narayan Dham temple and all the posts are selected here.

The meeting at the Narayan Dham temple takes place a day before the filing of nominations. In this meeting, the elders, the old and the young all participate and take a pledge that whatever the village elders decide, it has to be followed. The sarpanch is elected unopposed after discussing all his merits and demerits. All those who make their claim in the election are called to this meeting. Then, it is seen how good this candidate is. It doesn't drink anywhere. How much faith he has in God. How it behaves towards society. Then it's on that basis that one is elected.

Among the women who have been elected unopposed as Panch are Phool Rani Pati Lachchu Saur, Kaushalya Rani Husband Parasram Saur, Savita Rani Husband Chandrabhan Patel, Savita Rani Husband Bharat Kurmi, Ashok Rani Husband Ramkaran Kurmi, Anusuiya Rani Husband Gopal Chadar, Siyarani Husband Vishnu Ahirwar, Asharani Husband Kuttan Ahirwar, Anita Rani Husband Kanai Kurmi, Lalita Rani Pati Parshottam Kurmi, Kamalrani Husband Uttam Kurmi, Kaushalya Rani Husband Ram Pratap Kapasya, Deeprani Husband Mithu Kurmi, Santosh Rani Husband Hari Ram Kurmi, Anusuiyarani Husband Motilal Kurmi and Tara Rani Husband Mahesh Pyasi. All of them have sworn that they will develop the village and give houses to all the poor people of the village. Along with this, water and wages will also be arranged.
