Journalists from Kerala were arrested by the police on Friday, who were released later when they spoke to the families of those killed during a protest in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Mangaluru, Karnataka. For their release, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had written a letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka Yeddyurappa. During the violent demonstration in Mangaluru on Thursday, 2 people were also killed, whose bodies were handed over to their families today.

Mangaluru South police confirmed the release of 6-7 journalists arrested. He was arrested by the police this morning. A statement was issued on behalf of the Mangaluru Police Commissioner, saying that some journalists are not recognized. He is not involved with any media institution and hence he is under suspicion. All these journalists were talking to the relatives of the deceased. Meanwhile, the police asked him for his identity card and arrested him for not showing it.

In the letter, Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan addressed the Karnataka CM, 'I request you to arrest the journalists of Kerala, order the police so that they can be free immediately.' In the letter, he wrote, 'I want to bring your attention to this incident in which the police arrested Mangaluru's journalist while on duty'. He said, 'I strongly oppose the release of journalists as miscreants ... The freedom of media restriction is a product of fascist brains.' The incident took place during a violent demonstration in the citizenship amendment law protest in Mangaluru, Karnataka. In which 2 died and 20 policemen were injured.
