Between the lockdown and the Corona crisis, Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Lal Mandaviya held talks with the sailors' union and shipping line through video conferencing. The Union Minister has asked the ship liner to provide the details of Indian sailors stranded in international waters and abroad. The Ministry of Shipping has announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the death of port employees or workers due to Covid-19.

In his statement, Mandaviya said, 'I have served the naval unions and the shipping liner. Is communicated through video conferencing. Ship liners have been explicitly asked to provide details of Indian sailors stranded in international waters and abroad. The shipping ministry is planning to bring back the Indian sailors and is preparing an SOP to ease the sign in or sign off process at Indian ports.'

During the Corona transition and lockdown, the Ministry of Shipping has taken many decisions for the smooth operation of the ports. Vigilance steps have been taken at all ports, big and small, to fight Covid-19. Alccording to the order of the Ministry of Shipping, all port employees will be covered under compensation. Such employees would include direct recruitment or other contract workers through the port. 50 lakh rupees will be given to both types of employees. The port chairman will be the competent officer for claim-payment of compensation-grant.
