There is a possibility of postponing the National Sports Awards to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan on National Sports Day on 29 August every year. This is because there are growing cases of coronavirus.

A record 506 applications for India's highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna, Dronacharya, Dhyanchand and National Sports Promotion Awards have come, but the ministry has not yet constituted an award committee for the selection of the players. Last year during this period, the award committee was formed and the selection process was also started.

On clashing with the Asian Games in the year 2018, the National Sports Awards ceremony was organized in the month of September, but it was held in Rashtrapati Bhavan. This time it is speculated that the ceremony should not be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan. No information has been revealed yet about the ceremony.
