Statistics Day in India is celebrated on 29th June every year. This day is celebrated at the national level to honour the significant contribution made by P.C Mahalanobis in the field of economic planning and development of the cultural sector. Statistics Day is being observed across the country by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, State Government, Indian Statistical Institute, University. The department is celebrated through conferences, debates, quiz programmes, registration contests etc. We're going to share with you the important achievements of this day on this special occasion.

This year's theme of Statistics Day is 'Quality Assurance in Official Statistics'.This theme is selected to underline the importance of compliance with essential standards of quality in statistical systems and products. Contemporary themes are selected and efforts are made to improve the selected area throughout the year.Objective: The day aims at socio-economic planning and policy making. like. The contribution of Mahalanobis is to create awareness among the youth and motivate them. The administrative statistical system needs to be further strengthened. Because it is cost and time efficient, sample surveys and censuses reduce dependence. Administrative data are available at all levels of government, state and local bodies. Proper compilation of these data at various levels will ensure regular monthly and short-term flow of data. Themes selected in this way are extremely important. It remains the focal point area of the Directorate of Statistics and The Ministry of Programme Implementation and Statistics.

The Government of India has made significant contributions in the areas of Statistics, Statistics System and Economic Planning by the late Professor Prashant Chandra Mahalanobis.
