NCET has given Lifetime validity to TET certificate

The Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) certificate which is valid for seven years has now given a lifetime validity by the National Council For Teacher Education. NCET has recently approved the validity extension. The council's general body meeting was held recently and the agenda was placed before the council's meeting held virtually and it has approved extension of validity of the certificate to a lifetime.

With the changes in the National Education Policy, NCET is working on appropriate ways to improve the teacher education sector. NCET has launched TET in 2011, is a mandatory entrance examination for those who want to join the teaching profession and teach from Classes 1 to 8. The TET is the minimum requirement for any aspirant to join a government, aided or private school as a teacher.

KARTET- Karnataka TET was started to ensure uniform recruitment process and also to test teachers have the skills, essential aptitude, ability to meet teaching challenges, and talent to  teach at the primary and upper primary level. However, few sources say TET is mandatory for teaching in government schools, is not given so much importance in private school appointments. The new provision would have prospective effect and for candidates who get the certificate in future as also for those who already have a TET certificate. After approval, NCTE is now seeking legal opinion on the issue.
