KATHMANDU: With tensions between Ukraine and Russia rising, Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised its people not to visitUkraine unless it is "absolutely necessary."
The Foreign Ministry has also "asked" all Nepali people in Ukraine to come home after assessing the situation, stating that the confrontation between the two nations could evolve into a war. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Nepali nationals residing in Ukraine analyse the present situation and developments there and return home via commercial aircraft unless they are need to stay," reads a statement released on Wednesday.
Civilians have been asked to postpone their plans to visit Ukraine unless it is "absolutely necessary," according to the ministry.
More than 38 Nepali citizens have contacted the Nepal embassy in Berlin, which also handles Ukraine concerns, according to the ministry. There are abouat 200 Nepalis in Ukraine, according to Hari Malla, head of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).
"The majority of Nepalis in Ukraine are in transit and have been residing in places such as Odessa, Kiev, Kharkiv, Lutsk, Bila Tserkva, and others. Some of them ended up here after becoming victims of human trafficking "Malla stated.
