All of this has revealed another frightening variant of corona in many countries of the world, including central South Africa. The variant is said to be more dangerous than ever and can also dodge the protection from the vaccine.

Experts at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and The Kwazulu Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform in South Africa claim that the C.1.2 variant of the corona was first revealed in May. This was followed by China, Congo, England, New Zealand, Portugal, and Switzerland till August. According to experts, C.1.2 has seen more changes than the C.1 Variant of the variants received at the time of the first corona wave in South Africa. That is why this variant is placed in the category of Variant of Concern.

Experts claim that the world has seen more mutations in C.1.2 than the variant of concern and variant of attention received so far. Not only that, experts say the variant can be more contagious and can also dodge the safety mechanism sown by the corona vaccine. According to this study, the number of C.1.2 genomes is increasing every month in South Africa. Genome sequencing rose from 0.2% in May to 1.6% in June, up to 2% in July.
