On June 14, 2023, the trailer for the animated scientific fantasy film Nimona was unveiled, and netizens are already excited about the imminent release. The film, which was previously postponed and nearly cancelled, is finally slated to be released on Netflix, and here's everything we know about the Chlo Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed blockbuster, including the release date and synopsis.

Nimona is an adventure comedy centred on Nimona, a shapeshifting adolescent who aspires to be the sidekick of Ballister Blackheart, a knight accused of the queen's murder. The description of the film reads, "A knight framed for a tragic crime, teams with a scrappy, shape-shifting teen to prove his innocence. But what if she's the monster he's sworn to destroy?"  It is characterised as a "little anti, a little hero," with Chloe Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed playing Nimona and Ballister, respectively.

Nimona is planned to premiere on Netflix on June 30, 2003, and is based on ND Stevenson's graphic novel of the same name. Aside from Moretz and Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang plays Ambrosius Goldenloin, the champion knight and past lover of Ballister. Frances Conroy plays The Director, Lorraine Toussaint plays Queen Valerin, Beck Bennett plays Sir Thoddeus Sureblade, RuPaul plays Nate Knight, Indya Moore plays Alamzapam Davis, Julio Torres plays Diego the Squire, and Sarah Sherman plays Coriander Cadaverish.

After The Walt Disney Company was acquired by 21st Century Fox, Disney delayed Nimona owing to the film's LGBTQ themes. When the animation company Blue Sky Studios closed in April 2021, it was cancelled. However, when Annapurna Pictures revived the project, it saw a ray of hope. DNEG Animation provided the animation, and Netflix obtained worldwide distribution rights. Nick Bruno and Troy Quane are the directors.
