Nirbhaya case: Convict Pawan files mercy petition to President

New Delhi: Pawan Gupta, convicted in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, has filed a mercy petition with President Ram Nath Kovind. Pawan has filed this petition at 12 noon today. The culprits of Nirbhaya are to be hanged tomorrow. Earlier, the Patiala House Court has given a big verdict in the Nirbhaya case. The Patiala House Court has rejected the plea of Nirbhaya convicts Pawan and Akshay and refused to stay the death warrant.

Earlier, the curative petition of convict Pawan Gupta was also rejected by the Supreme Court. The convict Pawan, in his plea, demanded that the death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment. It is noteworthy that from the lower court to the Supreme Court, the four convicts Mukesh, Akshay, Vinay and Pawan have been sentenced to death. The convict Pawan Gupta had done a trick to avoid the hanging and had filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court 2 days earlier.

Apart from convict Pawan, the curative petitions of the three other convicts Mukesh, Akshay and Vinay have already been dismissed in the Supreme Court. After this, President Ramnath Kovind has also rejected his mercy petition. However, the President has not yet responded to the mercy plea of convict Pawan.
