Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Friday issued a non-bailable warrant against senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut for not appearing before them in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya's wife Medha Somaiya. Medha Somaiya had filed a defamation complaint against Raut.

The Sewri Metropolitan Magistrate issued the warrant after recording the complainant's statement and posted the matter for further hearing on January 24. Medha Somaiya's lawyer said Raut did not appear even after the court's order. In July 2022, a Metropolitan Court in Mazgaon issued a bailable warrant against the Shiv Sena leader. Somaiya had approached the court claiming that Raut had leveled baseless and defamatory allegations that he and her husband had committed a Rs 100 crore scam in the construction and supervision of a public toilet in the Mira Bhayander area near Mumbai.

Let us tell you that the Rajya Sabha MP of Shiv Sena was recently released in the Patra Chawl land scam case. Raut was arrested in August 2022 after the action of the Central Investigation Agency Enforcement Directorate (ED).
