Novak Djokovic, the world's number one player, withdrawing from this year's US Open tennis tournament to prepare for the French Open. Djokovic on Tuesday told Serbia's channel RTS that conditions will be much tighter for the Grand Slam tournament in New York due to the Coronavirus.

He said, "All the players I talked to were apprehensive about going there. I can continue the tennis session in September. Like other sports, tennis competitions have come to a standstill due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Most tournaments have been cancelled by the end of July. These include the French Open, which was to be held last week as per the pre-determined schedule. But it was postponed till September. Wimbledon has been cancelled for the first time since 1945. The American Tennis Association may decide on the holding of the US Open by next week. The main draw of the US Open is scheduled to start from August 31 as per the previous schedule.

Even before that Djokovic had said that it is impossible to participate in the US Open with restrictions. World's number one female tennis player Ashley Barty of Australia and world number two player Spain's Rafael Nadal have also confirmed their possibility to play in US Open. Three-time US Open winner Djokovic has called some restrictions impossible for players. He said, "We have to sleep in the hotel at the airport itself and have to undergo tests two or three times a week which is impossible. I mean to say that you need a coach, fitness trainer and physio. His suggestion is really difficult but I think the organizers want to organize it because of the economic point of view. We have to see what happens next."
