NEW DELHI: Sunil Gavaskar, former captain of the Indian team and a batsman, has urged team management to fix Shreyas Iyer's place in the fourth order of batting. Shreyas Iyer, who made 71 runs in 68 balls in the second ODI against the West Indies, has hit three half-centuries in 6 innings in 8 matches. On the other hand, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has failed on most occasions. Sunil Gavaskar feels that Shreyas Iyer should now be ranked No. 4 permanently.

After Shreyas Iyer, he should be sent to Rishabh Pant to strengthen the middle order, he said. "In his view, Rishabh Pant can play well on the role of finisher like MS Dhoni at Nos. 5 and 6, as he likes to play aggressively."

If Virat Kohli bats for 40 overs after Team India opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, then it would be right to send Rishabh Pant to No.4. Shreyas Iyer did not get an opportunity in the three-match T20 International series against the West Indies. Later, Shreyas Iyer got an opportunity in ODIs and after nearly a year, he proved himself by setting up a brilliant half-century in his first innings.
