Odisha: On Thursday, numerous regions of Odisha experienced widespread rainfall, and in the early hours of Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal off the state's coast.

The weather office stated that this low-pressure area was formed due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, and it is likely to bring squally weather with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 km per hour along and off the Odisha coast until July 22. In light of this, the MeT office has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during this period.

It is expected that the circulation will move across Odisha in the next two days, resulting in light to moderate rains with isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state until July 24. Additionally, the weather forecasting agency has predicted the formation of another low-pressure area on July 24 and issued both orange and yellow warnings until 8.30 AM on July 21.

The orange Alerts (be prepared) has been issued for the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, and Sambalpur, where heavy to very heavy rainfall of 7 to 20 cm is very likely to occur at isolated places between 8.30 AM on Friday and 8.30 AM on Saturday.

On the other hand, the IMD issued Yellow Alerts (be updated) for the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal, where heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places between 8.30 AM on Friday and 8.30 AM on Saturday.

Furthermore, the IMD has cautioned about the possibility of landslides in the hilly areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

A report from Malkangiri district revealed that due to incessant rainfall on Thursday, a landslide occurred at Bayapada ghat, cutting off at least 19 villages of Nakamamudi panchayat.
