After conducting physical classes for standards 10 and 12 for a month, the Odisha government reopened schools for the students of classes 9 and 11 from today (February 8) amid strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols across the State.

As per the SoP set by the School and Mass Education Department, classes will be held for two and a half hours beginning from 8 am every day, which will consist of three periods. As per the decision of the Mass Education department, the classroom teaching for these two classes will continue till April 30.

The students will appear in one unit test in the second week of March while the annual examination will be held in the last week of April. The teaching staff have been directed to report 30 minutes before the scheduled time. There will be no half-day and weekly-off on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The sitting arrangements will be made as per the Covid-19 protocols, ensuring social distancing.

The routine and scheme of lessons have been prepared as per the revised syllabus. The government has already reduced the syllabus by 30% owing to the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The government has decided to engage retired teachers to meet the crisis arising out of large scale vacancies in various schools across the State. Subjects like Maths, English and Social Science will be taught on a priority basis, sources said.

The government had earlier reopened the class for the class 10 students setting a norm of 100-day classroom teaching. The annual examination for Class 10 will begin on May 3
