Madurai: An elderly woman from Tamil Nadu has taken a strange step to protest against non-payment of pension. Karuppayi, a 65-year-old woman, has been living in a public toilet for the past 19 years in Ramnad area of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. 

The elderly woman is running her livelihood by cleaning the toilet. For cleaning the toilet, she is getting an average of rs.70 to Rs.80 a day. It is not that a woman has no children. Karuppei has a daughter, but she never came to see her mother. The woman has built her whereabouts inside the toilet.

While speaking to ANI about why she was forced to stay in a toilet, Karuppayi said, "I applied for senior citizen pension but didn't get it. I approached many officers in Collector's office but nothing materialised."

"I don't have any other source of income. So I live here in this public toilet. I earn Rs 70-80 per day. I've one daughter who never visits me."She further added.

The picture of  Karuppayi is going viral on the internet. After her pictures went viral, Twitterati started requesting the government to help her out. Some even praised her for doing her work properly and keeping the toilets clean.
