This veteran shooter supports Nikhat Zareen’s demand of trial against Mary Kom

New Delhi: Controversy in India is increasing with regard to next year's Olympic qualifiers. Questioning the selection process in the Indian team, a woman boxer Nikhat Zarin has reached the threshold of the Sports Ministry. He was also supported on this issue by India's only Olympic individual gold medal winner shooter Abhinav Bindra. He supported Nikhat Zarine's demand for a trial against boxer MC Mary Kom before selecting the Indian team.

Former Junior World Champion boxer Zarine's demand for a trial for the World Championship was turned down by the Indian Boxing Federation. He wrote a letter to Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju demanding a proper chance to get a place in the team for the Olympic qualifiers. Bindra tweeted, 'I respect Mary Kom but the player has to give proof in his career time and again. Proof that we can still play like yesterday. Better than yesterday and better than tomorrow. Yesterday spent in the game does not matter.

Both Bindra and Zarine are associated with JSW. Mary Kom won a bronze medal in the World Championship in the 51 kg category. The BFI now wants to send him to the Olympic qualifiers in China. Written in a letter to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju demanding a trial match against MC Mary Kom before selecting the Indian team for next year's Olympic qualifiers.
