NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Monday that the online nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2023, which will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2023, will open on May 1, 2022.
The deadline for Padma Award nominations is September 15, 2022. Nominations/recommendations for Padma Awards will only be accepted online through the National Awards portal's official website. The Padma Awards, which include the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are among the country's highest civilian honours.
These Awards, which were established in 1954, are presented each year on Republic Day. The award is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields/disciplines, such as art, literature, and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry, and so on. These Awards are open to all people, regardless of race, occupation, position, or gender. Except for doctors and scientists, government employees, including those working for PSUs, are not eligible for Padma Awards.
The government is determined to rename the Padma Awards "People's Padma." all citizens are, therefore, requested to make nominations/recommendations, including self-nomination. Efforts should be made to identify talented individuals whose excellence and achievements truly deserve to be recognised from among women, the weaker sections of society, SCs and STs, divyang people, and those performing selfless service to society.
