Famous painter Laxman Pai passes away, Goa CM expresses grief

Laxman Pai, who has been honored with the Padma Bhushan award, has passed away. He passed away in Goa last Sunday evening. He lived in Goa and passed away at his residence. Laxman was 95 years old and the sources associated with him said, ' he took last breath at his home in Paula. He was born in Goa in the year 1926 and was honored with many prestigious awards. The list includes Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Nehru Award, and Lalit Kala Akademi Awards. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed grief over the passing away of Laxman Pai today.

 

He wrote in a tweet on Twitter, "The demise of renowned Goa artist Padma Bhushan Shri Laxman Pai was very sad. Goa lost a gemstone today. We will always remember his immense contribution to the field of art. My heartfelt condolences to his family. En peace. Apart from him, Union Minister of State for Ayush, Shripad Y Naik has also paid homage to Laxman Pai. "Saddened to hear the passing away of Padma Bhushan Laxman Pai Ji, former principal of goa College of Art, a great Indian artist, and painter, he wrote in a tweet."May God give you power. Give his family the strength to endure suffering. Om Shanti."

Laxman Pai has won the Lalit Kala Akademi Award thrice in 1961, 1963, and 1962. On behalf of the Government of India, he was honored with the Padma Shri in 1945. Thereafter, in the year 1987, he was honored on behalf of the Government of Goa and was given Nehru Award in the year 1995.
