Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has vehemently condemned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his comments in the Lok Sabha suggesting that Hindus are inclined towards violence. The remarks have ignited widespread outrage among BJP members, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have labeled them as provocative and potentially inciting civil unrest.

During a parliamentary session, Rahul Gandhi used an image of Lord Shiva to symbolize the opposition’s resilience. He remarked, “The snake around Shiva’s neck teaches that one should never be afraid… I am happy and proud to be in the opposition because, for us, there is more than power; there is truth. It is not a symbol of violence; it is a symbol of non-violence, which is why it is positioned where Shiva cannot easily reach it with his right hand. Those who call themselves Hindu, 24×7 they do violence, violence, violence and hate, hate, hate. You are not a Hindu. Hinduism clearly states to stand by the truth.” Gandhi also linked the Congress party’s election symbol to the abhay mudra of Hinduism, representing truth, fearlessness, and non-violence.

These statements have triggered strong reactions from Hindus and political leaders across the nation. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai took to social media to criticize Gandhi's remarks. “The leader of the opposition, Thiru @RahulGandhi, made disparaging remarks about Hindus in Parliament today, calling them violent. On the same day, two members of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, an international pan-Islamist organization, were arrested in Tamil Nadu by the NIA for radicalizing youths. Neither the DMK nor Congress has condemned this group. For them, vote banks take precedence over national security!”

Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad also weighed in, describing Gandhi’s speech as an expression of frustration and desperation. Prasad’s comments followed Gandhi’s address during the debate on the President’s speech, where he sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government's policies.

“Rahul Gandhi’s speech was marked by harsh criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government’s schemes and policies,” Prasad said. “However, it seemed more like an emotional outburst from a leader grappling with his party’s declining fortunes.”

Prasad noted that Gandhi accused the BJP government of perpetuating lies and deceiving the nation, criticizing various schemes and policies as superficial and lacking substance. He also questioned the Prime Minister’s credibility and intentions. Despite these strong allegations, Prasad observed that Gandhi’s speech lacked concrete data and substance to back his claims.

“It appeared as a desperate attempt from a leader struggling to make an impact,” Prasad added. “The Congress party's repeated electoral defeats seem to have affected Gandhi mentally, and his speech reflected that frustration.”

Prasad criticized Gandhi for failing to offer viable alternatives to the BJP’s policies and schemes, revealing what he described as a lack of vision and leadership. “In conclusion, Rahul Gandhi’s speech today was a desperate bid to remain relevant in a political landscape shifting away from him,” Prasad asserted. “His frustration and desperation were evident, and his speech only reinforced the perception of him being a leader in decline.”
