Telecommunication Authority of Pakistan have announced the lifting of a ban on TikTok, expressing that they received assurances from the video-sharing application that it would moderate content in line with local laws. The Authority tweeted - after assurance from the TikTok management team that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality - it was decided to lift the ban.

Earlier this month, the Pakistan regulatory body stated it had blocked the popular application after registering various complaints of vulgarity from members of the public. In a latest statement released TikTok said it was disappointed that users in Pakistan were unable to access its service. Tik tok in their statement said that over the past year, they have made concerted efforts to address questions from the Government of Pakistan around their content moderation process, including significantly increasing the capability of their local language content moderation team.

Earlier, the Pakistan Authority had alleged that the video-sharing application failed to block obscene and immoral contents in spite of being told many times. The lifting of limitations came after TikTok said that that they would re-allocate more resources for the improvement of their service in Pakistan. It further reports that in case Pakistan Government decides to reopen access to their services in the future, they will certainly assess their allocation of resources to this market. Notably,  the application is vastly admired and has been installed 43 million times in Pakistan, with 14.7 million times in 2020 alone. The Indian and the US governments have already prohibited the app over security concerns.
