Senior Congress leader and former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has been arrested by the CBI after he failed to get relief from the Delhi High Court in the INX media case. According to reports, Karti, Son of Chidambaram, is also accused in the INX media case. Chidambaram is also stranded in the Aircel-Maxis 2G scam case, along with the INX media. There are also cases against his family and relatives.

Chidambaram first received interim relief in July 2018. His interim relief period was then extended. The charge sheet filed by the CBI on July 19 last year named Chidambaram and his son Karti.

The CBI has filed a charge sheet against Chidambaram's wife Nalini Chidambaram in the Saradha chit fund scam. She is alleged to have taken bribes worth Rs 1.4 crore. In February this year, the Calcutta High Court granted interim relief from her arrest in the case.
