LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to conduct Covid-19 tests on anyone entering the state from other states or from outside the country. This includes people from all over the world, as well as states like Kerala and Maharashtra. He also stated that the government should concentrate on vaccinating as many people as possible who are eligible for the second dose.

Even as the number of active cases in Uttar Pradesh continues to hover around 100, the chief minister has asked officials not to be complacent. While the state has now registered the maximum number of people who have been fully vaccinated (approximately 3 crore), about one crore people have yet to receive their second dose.

According to a spokesman for the government, "The Chief Minister has stated that efforts should be increased to ensure that everyone gets their second shot on time. Saturdays have already been set aside by the state for those who need to take their second shots." Meanwhile, as the number of Covid-19 cases rises in other states and neighbouring countries, surveillance committees have been asked to remain vigilant and refocus on house visits.

Members of the surveillance committees would visit homes, identify potential patients, distribute medicines and pulse oximeters, and so on, helping to control the spread of the pandemic in the state. The committees have also been asked to keep an eye on the spread of vector-borne diseases and report on it. The exercise will be ramped up during festival season, when there is a chance of more cases, he said.
