NEW DELHI: Court is to hear a PIL filed by doctors across the country in protest against the attack on a doctor in Kolkata in West Bengal. The Supreme Court will hear the case on Tuesday. In fact, the petition filed in the Supreme Court seeks to ensure the safety of doctors in all government hospitals in the country.

It has also sought directions to the West Bengal government to take strict legal action against those who attacked the doctor at Kolkata Medical College. Delhi lawyer Alkh Alok Srivastava has filed a petition seeking to frame rules to ensure the safety of government doctors. The petitioner said that security personnel in plain uniform should be deployed in every government hospital.

The petition said that due to the demonstrations, health services in the country have been badly affected and many people are dying due to non-presence of doctors. The petition said, "The Indian Medical Association has supported the movement of doctors and issued instructions to all its state branches to protest by tying a black belt on Friday. Several senior doctors have resigned from government posts to demonstrate solidarity with agitating doctors," he said.
