New Delhi: The third wave of corona is said to be fatal for children. The country is now recovering from the second wave of corona. Meanwhile, a PIL seeking immediate immunization of children in the age group of 12-17 years has been filed in the Delhi High Court. The petition also sought directions to give priority to immunization of parents of children below the age of 12 years.

The petition was filed by 12-year-old Tia Gupta and 8-year-old mother Roma Raheja. He submitted before the court that it is the responsibility of government officials to protect children from parents or parents who can bring them closer to corona infection and death. The petition said that children are entitled to fundamental rights just like adults. The State is bound to recognize the vulnerability of children during this epidemic and accordingly it is its duty to take all appropriate immunization measures as well as ensure other preventive medical infrastructure measures for them.

The petitioners have drawn the attention of the court to the fact that there was evidence that children who were not vaccinated could fall prey to more powerful corona variants. This has come to light during the second wave of corona. Children with a new, more deadly COVID-19 strains were more likely to develop as reflected in the second wave.
