NEW DELHI: Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has an upcoming visit to the United Kingdom from July 10-11. The purpose of the visit is to boost the discussions on the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two nations. Goyal will also engage with ministers from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member countries to review the progress of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with EFTA.

The visit holds immense significance as both India and the UK are dedicated to expanding their economic ties and exploring new avenues for bilateral trade growth. Goyal is set to have high-level meetings with his counterparts in the UK, including the secretary of state for international trade, as well as representatives from various sectors and industries.

These meetings will provide a platform to discuss the key priorities and objectives of the FTA negotiations. The focus will be on addressing trade barriers, promoting investments, and fostering greater cooperation in technology, innovation, and intellectual property rights.

Additionally, Goyal will engage with ministers and officials from the EFTA member countries (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) to evaluate the progress made in the ongoing negotiations of the TEPA with EFTA.

The TEPA aims to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between India and the EFTA member countries by creating a favorable environment for increased investments, reduced trade barriers, and improved market access. The visit seeks to propel the discussions forward, leading to a comprehensive and mutually beneficial agreement that will drive economic growth and further strengthen ties between the two nations, according to official sources.
