In the second round of applications, 19 companies applied for white goods (AC, Led Lights)  under the government's Production Linked Incentive scheme (PLI), with investments totaling Rs 1,548 crore, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

There are eight AC component firms and eleven LED light companies that have filed applications in this category. According to the ministry, the companies are projected to produce AC components and LED lights worth around Rs 26,880 crore and employ 5,522 people directly.

LG Electronics, Mitsubishi Electric, Adani Copper Tubes, Jindal Poly Films, Crompton Greaves, Wipro, Zeco Aircon, Starion India, and Swaminathan Enterprises are among the companies that have filed applications to manufacture air conditioners and LED lights.

In total, the initiative will invest over Rs 7,074 crore in the component manufacturing eco-system of the ACs and LED Lights industries, resulting in around 2,00,000 direct and indirect job opportunities. According to the government announcement, it is estimated to result in a total manufacturing of components for ACs and LEDs in India of around Rs 1,07,134 crore.

The white goods PLI initiative is intended to develop a complete component ecosystem for the Indian air conditioner and LED lighting industries. For a period of five years following the base year and one year of gestation, the scheme extends an incentive of 6% to 4% on a declining basis of incremental sales. Domestic Value Addition is predicted to rise from 15-20% to 75-80% in the next years.

On April 16, 2021, the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for white goods was announced, with a budget of Rs 6,238 crore. From June 15, 2021, through September 15, 2021, online applications were accepted. A total of 52 companies had previously submitted their applications. Following the review of all applications, 42 applicants with promised contributions totaling Rs 4,614 crore were chosen as PLI beneficiaries.
