NEW DELHI: At Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extensive discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who was in town on a three-day visit as the 74th Republic Day's chief guest.
The two leaders shook hands and posed for pictures before starting the meeting. Both parties held delegation-level discussions on bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields, including trade, culture, and the digital realm.
At the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a number of other important figures welcomed the Egyptian President.
"Deepening our bond with Egypt -- the natural bridge that connects Asia with Africa. PM Narendra Modi and President Alsisi Official hold talks adding momentum to the multifaceted India-Egypt relations marked by civilizational, cultural and economic linkages and deep-rooted P2P ties," "Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the ministry of external affairs, tweeted.
In a formal statement, the Egyptian President said it was a pleasure to be a guest of honour and take part in the magnificent national day. He claimed that balance and stability have always defined the relationships between Egypt and India.
Before their private meeting with PM Modi today, Sisi lay a wreath at Rajghat to honour Mahatma Gandhi. On Wednesday, he spoke with S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs.
Later this evening, President Droupadi Murmu will give a state banquet in honour of the distinguished guest. Sisi will also attend President Murmu's "at home" reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Meantime, the Egyptian President will also hold a meeting with Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and interact with the business community in India.
