NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a harsh warning to BJP members of Parliament on Tuesday, saying that nepotism will not be allowed in the party.

The Prime Minister acknowledged responsibility for refusing tickets to family members of MPs in the recent state polls while speaking at the first meeting of the BJP parliamentary party after the party's spectacular victory in Assembly polls in four states.

Prime Minister Modi and BJP chairman J.P. Nadda were greeted with garlands by all former national presidents of the party, who congratulated them on their victory.

According to BJP sources, "Prime Minister Modi reminded the MPs that it was their responsibility if a member of their family was denied a ticket, and that nepotism would not be tolerated in the party. In other political parties, the BJP will battle cronyism and dynastic politics." In response to the recent Assembly elections, the Prime Minister stated that caste politics is coming to an end. "The Prime Minister declared that 'jativaad ki rajneeti' (caste politics) is coming to an end," a BJP member of parliament added.

Prime Minister Modi is also said to have criticized chief ministers in opposition-controlled states for politicising the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine. "Instead of consoling people, Prime Minister Modi added, chief ministers of opposition-ruled states are submitting letters to the Centre requesting that students be evacuated from their states first. He further stated that the BJP is the only political party that has reached out to the families of Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine "another BJP member of parliament stated.
