New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Fridiay inaugurated 1675 newly built flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters at the Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi. He also personally handed over keys to several eligible beneficiaries, marking a significant step in improving the living conditions of these families.

Ahead of the inauguration, PM Modi also inspected newly constructed flats for the dwellers of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project.

Prior to the inauguration, the PM also inspected the newly-constructed flats, part of the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project. This initiative aims to offer a healthier and more comfortable living environment for JJ cluster residents by providing modern housing equipped with essential amenities.

During the event, he interacted with some of the beneficiaries, who expressed their deep gratitude for possessing  their new homes. One beneficiary shared their appreciation on social media, stating, "Modiji does what he says... He promised 'Jahan jhuggie wahin makaan' (house where there is a slum), and he fulfilled his promise!"

In his post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of housing for all Indians. "A home is where dreams take root," the PM said, quoting - - We are committed to ensuring proper housing for all Indians -- Today, I am proud to inaugurate 1,675 newly constructed flats, which will provide a better and healthier living space for many people."

The goal of the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project is to improve the quality of life for JJ cluster residents by offering them safe and comfortable housing with necessary facilities. According to a press release, for every Rs 25 lakh spent on constructing a flat, eligible beneficiaries contribute less than 7% of the total cost—comprising a nominal fee of Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's virtual inaugurations showcased significant advancements in urban development and educational infrastructure, reflecting the government's commitment to modernization and inclusivity. Among the major projects, the World Trade Centre at Nauroji Nagar stands as a beacon of India's growing global economic aspirations, set to foster international business collaboration. The inauguration of the GPRA Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar underscores the emphasis on providing modern and sustainable housing for government employees, enhancing their quality of life.

Notably, the foundation stone for the Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh, marks a step forward in empowering rural education and bridging gaps in access to higher learning. Further bolstering the education sector, the upcoming CBSE Integrated Office Complex at Dwarka is envisioned as a state-of-the-art hub to streamline administrative processes and enhance efficiency. These projects collectively highlight the government’s holistic approach to fostering economic growth, improving living standards, and strengthening educational institutions.

On this special occasion, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, highlighted the significance of the new flats. "Today, PM Modi will hand over the keys to residents living in slums. These homes are built in line with the Prime Minister's vision, offering lifts, parks for children, and all necessary facilities," he said.
