NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually interact with the talented minds participating in the Smart India Hackathon 2023 Grand Finale today. Scheduled for December 19, 2023, at 9:30 PM, the Prime Minister connected with participants via video conferencing and deliver an address during the event.
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of fostering youth-led development. This nationwide initiative offers students a platform to tackle significant challenges faced by various Government ministries, industries, and organizations. Launched in 2017, the Smart India Hackathon has gained immense popularity among young innovators. Over its five previous editions, numerous pioneering solutions have emerged across diverse domains, giving rise to successful startups.
This year, the SIH Grand Finale runs from December 19 to December 23. SIH 2023 received over 50,000 ideas from 44,000 teams, marking a nearly sevenfold increase compared to its inaugural edition. The grand finale, hosted across 48 nodal centers nationwide, will witness participation from more than 12,000 individuals and over 2,500 mentors. A total of 1,282 teams have been shortlisted for this year's grand finale, focusing on themes such as Space Technology, Smart Education, Disaster Management, Robotics and Drones, Heritage and Culture, among others.
The participating teams are geared up to tackle 231 problem statements (176 software and 55 hardware) put forward by 51 departments of 25 Union Ministers and State governments. The total prize pool for Smart India Hackathon 2023 exceeds Rs 2 crore, with each winning team set to receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh per problem statement.
