PM Modi to attend 1st Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the first Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture (AJML) on Friday, July 8 at Vigyan Bhavan here. He willr will also address the gathering during the event.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a senior minister in the Singaporean government, will give the opening keynote speech at the first AJML on the topic of "Growth through Inclusivity, Inclusivity through Growth." Arvind Panagariya, professor at Columbia University, and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the OECD, will participate in a panel discussion after the presentation.

In honour of Arun Jaitley's significant service to the country, the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, has organised the first "Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture."  The Kautilya Economic Conclave (KEC), a three-day conference being held from July 8 to July 10, will also feature interactions between the Prime Minister and the delegates attending.

The Prime Minister will meet with prominent economists such as Anne Krueger from John Hopkins University, Nicholas Stern from the London School of Economics, Robert Lawrence from Harvard Kennedy School, John Lipsky, a former acting managing director of the IMF, Junaid Ahmed, the country director for India for the World Bank, among others.

The Ministry of Finance is assisting the Institute of Economic Growth in organising the KEC.
