NEW DELHHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will connect with young innovators during the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 today, December 11, 2024. The event is scheduled to take place at 4:30 PM via video conferencing. Over 1,300 student teams will participate, as per an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Modi is also expected to deliver an address during the occasion.

A Massive Innovation Marathon Across the Nation

\The 7th edition of SIH is set to simultaneously commence at 51 nodal centers across India. The Software Edition will run continuously for 36 hours, while the Hardware Edition will span from December 11 to December 15, 2024.

Student teams will tackle problem statements provided by various ministries, departments, and industries, or propose their ideas under the Student Innovation Category. These problems revolve around 17 crucial themes tied to sectors of national importance.

Young Minds Addressing National Challenges

The themes for this year include Healthcare, Smart Technologies, Sustainability, Education, Water, Agriculture, Emerging Technologies, and Disaster Management, among others. Notable problem statements include:

"Enhancing-images-of-darker-regions-on-the-Moon", presented by ISRO.

Developing a real-time Ganga Water Quality Monitoring System using AI, Internet of Things, and satellite data, presented by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Creating a Smart Yoga Mat integrated with Artificial Intelligence, presented by the Ministry of AYUSH.

Record Participation in SIH 2024

This year, over 250 problem statements have been contributed by 54 ministries, state governments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and industries, marking the most extensive edition of SIH to date.

The event has witnessed a significant rise in internal hackathons at the institute level, with a 150% increase from over 900 in 2023 to around 2,247 in 2024. More than 86,000 teams participated at the institute level, out of which approximately 49,000 teams, each comprising six students and two mentors, were shortlisted for the national-level round.

The Smart India Hackathon continues to be a platform that encourages young talent to devise innovative solutions to real-world challenges while fostering a culture of problem-solving and creativity.
