Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon introduce the "Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari" initiative in Surat, Gujarat, on Friday, aiming to boost community participation in water conservation efforts. This initiative aligns with the ongoing "Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain" campaign and emphasizes Modi’s vision of collaborative water management to ensure sustainable water security, as per an official announcement.

The primary goal of the initiative is to engage citizens, local authorities, industries, and other stakeholders in Gujarat to implement rainwater harvesting systems. These efforts are expected to set an example for other states, encouraging the adoption of sustainable water management practices to improve water security nationwide.

Modi’s initiative advocates a "whole-of-society" approach, calling for collective efforts to capture and utilize every drop of rain. The rainwater harvesting structures established under this program will play a critical role in demonstrating Gujarat’s achievements in community-driven water conservation, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) participation is also being encouraged.

Gujarat’s community-based water conservation model has set a remarkable precedent in India. The launch of "Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari" is being viewed as a significant step, aimed at inspiring other states to adopt similar initiatives, the statement said.

Water conservation has been a key focus for the prime minister, who has often emphasized its importance as a national mission. The involvement of state-level officials from across the country highlights the nationwide significance of building a sustainable, water-secure future for the coming generations.

This initiative builds upon the success of the "Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain" campaign, which began in 2019. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign has evolved into a national movement. Its current phase, launched in March, places special emphasis on women's leadership in water management, under the theme "Nari Shakti se Jal Shakti," the statement reads.
