PM Modi said that regional cooperation matters a lot in view of the incidents that have happened in Europe now. That is why now we have also adopted BIMSTEC charter. During the address, a big announcement has also been made by PM Modi. He said that 1 million US dollars will be provided from India to increase the operational budget. PM Modi said that our region has also not remained untouched by today's challenging global scenario. Our economy, our people, are still facing the ill effects of the corona pandemic. The developments in Europe in the last few weeks have put a question mark on the stability of the international system.

What is this BIMSTEC?

Let us tell you that this time the theme of BIMSTEC conference has been kept as 'A Potential Sector, Prosperous Economy and Healthy People'. This conference is being considered even more special because 25 years have been completed since its establishment. Talking about BIMSTEC, it is a regional cooperation group focused on the countries of Bay of Bengal. The Bist-EC group was first established in the year 1997 with the help of India. Then India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand were included in this group. Later this group was further expanded to include Nepal, Myanmar and Bhutan and its name was BIMSTEC.
