NEW DELHI: In a forthcoming programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate an ambitious housing endeavor targeting the economically weaker segments of society in Solapur, Maharashtra. Government sources have confirmed that this expansive housing venture, sprawling across a vast 100-acre expanse, encompasses a total of 30,000 residences, with a staggering 15,000 units already constructed.

At a summit organized by the National Real Estate Development Council (Naredco), a government official declared, "The most significant housing project catering to the economically disadvantaged, known as Raynagar in Solapur, is nearing completion. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to grace its inauguration next month."

Key Highlights of the Solapur EWS Housing Project:

According to the report, each dwelling boasts a modest 300 square feet of space and is priced at an affordable Rs. 6 lakhs for its intended beneficiaries. These housing units are organized into seven distinct housing societies, designed to accommodate families earning an annual income of less than Rs. 3 lakhs. Eligible recipients encompass various labor sectors, such as unorganized laborers, textile workers, beedi workers, construction laborers, ragpickers, and garment workers.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) is overseeing the project's execution, with support from the central government's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

She elucidated that the state government is diligently pursuing a cluster-based development approach, necessitating the signing of cluster and development agreements for each project. A parallel approach is being undertaken for the revitalization of Kamathipura, Mumbai's notorious red-light district.

At the same event, Pravin Darade, the principal secretary for the environment, revealed the government's proactive efforts to formulate an action plan addressing climate change. The administration has assembled a team of 20 interns tasked with collaborating across multiple government departments to develop this comprehensive plan.
