Here's everything you need know about the airport in Shivamogga: The foundation for the Shivamogga Airport, which is being developed on 663 acres of land for a cost of Rs. 449.22 crore, was laid in June 2020 by former CM B S Yediyurappa. The airport's passenger terminal building has a 300 passenger per hour capacity.

According to a statement from the government, the airport will provide accessibility and connection for Shivamogga and other nearby areas in the Malnad region.

The ninth domestic airport in Karnataka is this one. Domestic airports serving the state are currently found in Bangalore, Mysuru, Ballari, Bidar, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, and Mangaluru. The two international airports in the state are at Bangalore and Mangaluru.

The airport, which is built to operate Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 type aircraft, has the second-longest runway, measuring 3,200 metres, after Kempe Gowda International airport in Bangalore. It can accommodate 200 passengers during peak hours.

Yediyurappa, a former chief minister of Karnataka, said that the airport at Shivamogga would fulfill a long-standing demand of the Malnad region's people and have the second-longest runway in the state after Bengaluru. He continued, "The airport will improve connectivity, spur tourism, and further accelerate growth in Central Karnataka."

The new line between Shivamogga and Shikaripura and the Koteganguru railway coaching depot are two more railway projects in Shivamogga for which the prime minister will also lay the cornerstones. Enhanced connectivity between the Malnad region and the Bengaluru-Mumbai mainline would be made possible by the new line, which will be built at a cost of Rs. 990 crore. To help launch new trains from Shivamogga and relieve pressure on the maintenance facilities in Bengaluru and Mysuru, the coaching depot in Shivamogga city would be built at a cost of more than Rs. 100 crore.
The PM will also be visiting Shivamogga and the Belagavi districts to inaugurate water supply projects worth over Rs.2,500 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission which will benefit more than 13 lakh people of the two districts, as per reports.
