PM to visit Shimla tomorrow, will partake in 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan'

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' in Shimla on Tuesday, celebrating the conclusion of his eight-year term, and will interact directly with beneficiaries of various initiatives.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated in a statement on Monday that the programme envisions elected public representatives across the country actively communicating with the public in order to obtain input on the government's numerous welfare programmes. Prime Minister Modi will attend the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' on May 31 at 11 a.m.,  the statement reads. 

The "new public programme" is being held at state capitals, district headquarters, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country. According to the statement, the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' will begin at 9:45 a.m., with chief ministers, central ministers, state ministers, members of Parliament, members of the Legislative Assembly, and other elected public representatives directly engaging with the public at their respective locations across the country.

With the prime minister joining the programme at 11 a.m., the numerous state and municipal level programmes will be covered, bringing the 'Sammelan' to a national level. During the 'Sammelan,' Prime Minister Modi will meet with beneficiaries of various government programmes from nine ministries and departments.

According to the PMO, the freewheeling engagement is aimed at gaining open and honest feedback from the public, assessing the impact of welfare schemes on people's lives, and studying convergence and saturation with relation to various government programmes.
