Police arrests Man From Odisha’s Kalahandi For ‘Selling’ His Wife and then?

BHUBANESWAR: In a shocking incident, a labourer from the Kalahandi area of Odisha sold his wife to a Delhi-based man and returned home after conducting their marriage.

Later, police detained the youth . Sources said that Kheera Beruk, a native of the Kalahandi district's Muskaguda village in the Narla block, married Purnami, the daughter of Kulamani Bhoi, nearly a year ago.

Kheera along with his wife Purnam, left for New Delhi to work as daily laborer on October 30. But, Kheera alone returned home after a few days.

On November 5, Purnami called her father Kulamani and told him about the incident. She also shared video footage of the marriage ceremony conducted in Delhi to her father.

Speaking to the media, Kulamani claimed that Kheera had given the Delhi man Purnami in exchange for cash. Kulamani then reported the incident to Narla police. In response to the complaint, police opened an investigation and detained Kheera Beruk.

Kulamani claimed he was unaware of the man to whom Purnami was sold's address. He pleaded with the police to take his daughter out right away and bring her back.

"Kheera Beruk, the accused, has been detained and handed over by us. We still need to save the victim "IIC of the Narla police station, Gangadhar Mehere, said.
