New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai is set to meet with officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) today (November 15),  to discuss ways to strengthen public transportation in the wake of the pollution crisis and a fare hike by the Delhi Metro and DTC. The Supreme Court had recommended to the Centre a two-day lockdown to combat air pollution in the national capital earlier on Saturday.

Meanwhile, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, (SAFAR) Delhi's air quality improved marginally on Monday, reaching the lower end of the 'very poor' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 318 (overall). The minister had previously claimed on Friday that the Delhi government had launched the second phase of its anti-dust campaign, which will run through December 12.

"The second phase of the anti-dust campaign begins today, after the first phase concluded in October. 2,500 sites were visited in the first campaign, with 450 sites found to be in violation of the laws, resulting in a fine of Rs 1 crore 30 lakhs "said the minister.
