Bangalore: Suspended Janata Dal Secular leader and MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape, was arrested upon his arrival at Bengaluru airport from Germany. He has been remanded to police custody until June 6. The arrest, carried out by a team of female officers, has been commended for its symbolic significance in Karnataka's police force.

Revanna was apprehended at Kempegowda Airport and subsequently taken to a city hospital for a routine medical examination before being presented in court for a remand hearing. The police sought a 14-day custody period to examine evidence, including his mobile phone, luggage, and materials seized from his home in Hassan.

His lawyers argued against the extended custody period, contending that one day was sufficient. Revanna's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a special court on Thursday. He had left for Germany shortly after videos implicating him in sexual assault surfaced, utilizing his diplomatic passport as an MP.

The Congress government in Karnataka has accused the BJP of shielding Revanna by delaying the cancellation of his diplomatic passport. The BJP, however, has distanced itself from him, stating that the party has no connection to the allegations. Despite his public statements expressing cooperation with the investigation, Revanna's return to India was prompted by pressure from his grandfather, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda, who urged him to surrender to authorities.
