New Delhi: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has given his opinion on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence case. Prakash Javadekar blamed the masked left students for the violence on the campus who destroyed the university's server room. Javadekar has denied that the government failed to stop the violence. He said that educational institutions are considered autonomous and police do not enter the premises unless assistance is sought on their behalf.
Talking to the media, the Union Minister said, 'Universities like JNU are considered autonomous institutions in the system of administration and unless the demand is made by the university administration, the police does not enter the campus. This is a rule. The point is that students are protesting against the fee hike. People should know that JNU's fee is just Rs 300 per year. '
He said, 'Fees have increased but they are demonstrating. Protesting is the legal right of students, but it can be resolved through negotiation. The registration process for the semester examination started amid protests. On January 1, 1100 students registered themselves. This left the students' union upset. After this, the students of the left came wearing masks and destroyed the server room.
