New Delhi: In a move towards digitization, Prasar Bharati has decided to auction TV channels and OTT platforms with their archive content that precedes the country's independence. According to a notification issued by Prasar Bharati, its premium content will be available to be purchased from new units of Doordarshan, All India Radio and Prasar Bharati.

The notification states that 'Prasar Bharati has accumulated a lot of brilliant and historical content in its archive as well as stations, centres located in all corners of the nation. The news division of All India Radio and DD also has excellent recordings of many important milestones in India's development.' It further says that we are hoping to provide our content to Prasar Bharati through e-auction to third parties to view/listen to on-demand through linear broadcasting (TV, radio) as well as internet-based platforms.

In fact, there has been a demand for broadcasting as well as streaming on digital platforms for Prasar Bharati's programme content in India and abroad. There is a great potential for monitoring of this content, which requires a proper and well-defined content syndication policy.
