President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a significant state visit to Fiji, where she met with Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere at the State House in Suva. The primary focus of the meeting was to fortify the bilateral relationship between India and Fiji. Upon arrival, President Murmu received a traditional ceremonial welcome. Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka was present at the airport to extend a formal reception.

Advancing India's Act East Policy

This visit, which follows an invitation from President Katonivere, is part of India's broader Act East Policy aimed at deepening ties with the Pacific region. During her three-day visit, President Murmu is set to engage with the Indian diaspora and deliver a speech at the Fijian Parliament. This marks the first time an Indian head of state has visited Fiji.

Upcoming Stops: New Zealand and Timor-Leste

After Fiji, President Murmu will travel to New Zealand from August 7 to 8. There, she will meet with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, address the Indian community, and participate in an education conference. This leg of the tour is also being conducted at the invitation of Governor-General Cindy Kiro.

On August 10, President Murmu will continue her journey to Timor-Leste. This visit, on the official invitation of President Jose Ramos-Horta, is notable as it marks the first visit by an Indian head of state to this Southeast Asian nation. She is scheduled to hold discussions with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.

President Murmu's tour across these three nations highlights India's dedication to enhancing bilateral relationships and expanding its global reach.
