NEW DELHI: Triple Talaq bill have also been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind and with this approval, the triple Talaq laws in the country will come into force from September 19, 2018. On Tuesday, three divorce bills were passed by the Rajya Sabha and then sent to the President for approval, where the President has also approved it.

Two days ago, three divorce bills were passed by the Rajya Sabha after the Lok Sabha. The bill had 99 votes in favour and 84 in opposition, followed by the bill sent to the president. Earlier, the proposal to send three divorce bills to the Select Committee in the Rajya Sabha had collapsed after voting. There were 84 votes in favour of the motion and 100 votes in opposition, and several parties opposing the bill also staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha during the voting. The bill also includes a 3-year sentence and a fine, making triple talaq illegal.

On three divorces, these are the provisions...

1. If the husband divorces his wife orally, written or any other medium then it will be considered as a crime.

2. On Triple Talaq, the wife will be able to file a case either by herself or her close relatives.

3. The Protection of Women's Rights Act, 2019, is a crime to give Triple Talaq at a time and hence the police can arrest the accused husband who divorces without a warrant.

4. The husband can be imprisoned up to three years and fined up to three years if he divorces three at the same time. He will be granted bail from the Magistrate Court itself.

5. The saying is that the magistrate will not be able to grant bail to the husband who has Triple Talaq without hearing the victim's side.

6. There is also a provision that the magistrate shall decide the cost of maintenance of the wife and children on the Triple talaq, which the husband will have to pay.
