New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took aim at the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday, calling the state's cow shelters "pathetic." The state government is not doing enough to improve the condition of cow shelters, Priyanka Gandhi said.

She shared this on Twitter: "The Chief Minister is travelling to Braj, which is known for its cow service, and we hope that he will take steps to improve the condition of cow shelters. The situation has been dreadful for the past five years, and the government has done nothing to help." She also included newspaper articles about the state of cow shelters in her collection.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, ordered officials to conduct a thorough pre-monsoon inspection of all cow shelters in the state in July. He had asked the officials to make sure that the cattle had enough green fodder and straw, among other things. He had stated that if a cow died as a result of mismanagement, strict action would be taken against the officer or employee involved in the shelter. The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the Prevention of Cow Slaughter (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 on June 9, 2020.
