New Delhi: Amid the global epidemic of coronavirus, there has been an acute shortage of thermometers and oximeters along with medicines. The 100 rupee thermometer is available for more than 300 rupees and the 500-rupee oximeter is available for two to two and a half thousand rupees. It is also not available at most medical stores. Many medical stores are facing severe dispersal.

Companies have increased the price of medicines by 30 percent due to consumption of medicines and black marketing with demand in a month. Thermometers, oximeters, masks, gloves and sanitizers, vaporizers, blood pressure measuring machines, and glucometers are being sold at manifold prices. Aminabad wholesaler Ajay Mishra points out that consumption and demand have increased manifold in a month. The wholesale traders are not able to meet the demand. Medicines are also not available from the companies. This has greatly increased the shortage of medicines. Some people are black marketing stolen drugs.

The thermometer available for Rs.80 to Rs.100 is being sold for Rs.250 to Rs.300. The oximeter of Rs. 500 is being sold for up to Rs. 2500. Even BP checking machines are being sold at arbitrary prices. What was previously sold for up to 1000 rupees is now being sold for 2500 to 3000 rupees.
