WASHINGTON: In the House of Representatives, a pro-Pakistani US politician has introduced a resolution urging the State Department to label India a flagrant violation of religious freedom.

Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Jim McGovern, and Juan Vargas are all Democrats and co-sponsors of the resolution with Ilhan Omar, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives who is well-known for supporting Pakistan.
The first Muslim American women elected to Congress are Omar and Rashida Tlaib, and they both frequently discuss threats and difficulties facing Muslims worldwide.

In contrast to legislation, Wednesday's resolution is non-binding and asks Secretary of State Antony Blinken to classify India as a "country of particular concern," a designation the US uses for nations that it believes are committing the most flagrant breaches of religious freedom.

"Human rights violations against religious and cultural minorities must be held the Indian government accountable." "The Indian government has been stepping up its repressive measures against Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Dalits in recent years. It is past time for the State Department to publicly identify India as a Country of Particular Concern under the International Religious Freedom Act and recognise the reality of the situation there " Omar added.
