Puducherry: The number of infected people in the Union Territory has increased to 1,20,627 after 97 new cases of corona infection were reported in a day in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Health and Family Welfare Service Director S Mohan Kumar said on Wednesday that out of the new cases, the Puducherry region reported the highest number of 74 cases, Karaikal 16, Mahe five, and Yanam two. Puducherry is currently undergoing treatment for coronavirus infection of 923 people, out of which 189 are admitted to the hospital and 734 are in separate residences.

Kumar said the death toll has risen to 1,792 after the death of a 42-year-old woman from infection in the last 24 hours. The number of people who have been freed from infection in the Union Territory has increased to 1,17,627 after 96 more people were recovered. The Director, Department of Health has said that the infected rate of samples in the Union Territory is 1.72 percent. The recovery rate of patients is 97.75 percent and the mortality rate from Covid-19 is 1.49 percent.

The director said that so far 37,785 health workers and 22,962 personnel on the front line have been given the dose of covid-19 vaccine. Senior citizens and about 4.86 million people over the age of 45 who are already suffering from any disease have been vaccinated. Overall, the Health Department has given corona vaccine doses to 6.86 million people. Meanwhile, the health department has announced a three-day free vaccination drive from Thursday.
